Each member has a "Vira" counter in his/her profile. What is that ?

Erm... it's actually like... a monetary system, though we haven't been able to figure out what it could possibly be used for. We'll probably disable it unless we're ACTUALLY able to find some sort of use, but chances are there's no point.

Hum... what interests me in this system is own accumulation of capital (vira) happens. I guess the more you communicate, the more you accumulate capital. But, how do you invest capital then ? Is there material power to be obtained via abstract accumulation ? Do we want conflicts on this forum ? What is the underlying message ? The more you communicate, the more important you are ?

More fundamentally, you probably guessed I'm opposed. We should remove that functionality.

And no, it's not that I hate "fun" things. Things might look fun, but might not be in the end. I take for example my post in the King of the Hill topic. Social relations are complex objects with many implicit implications. I just want everybody on this forum to have the best time possible, without having to "earn" something more than what this the forum is: a mean of communication between people that want to do things they like together. I give you arguments so that you can understand me better.

Unless you've noticed, I'm a sociologist. :p
I care about how we interact. Read it as constructive criticism.

If you don't know what sociology is, look at this:

Cheers

Oh no, I know what Sociology is... I have a friend who's gone through that an many other things.

I'm not exactly sure how the system decides how much vira you gain per post, but I can tell you that as soon as I figure out how to turn it off I will... I'm actually trying to figure that out right now. Though that still leaves the post count. Either way there's still something to keep track of how much a person has posted. To me, it really doesn't matter how much people post provided they post once in a while. I mean, there really isn't a reason for people to join something if they're not gonna take part. Don't get me wrong though... I'm not trying to be a tool.

But don't worry, if anything goes wrong it'll be taken care of... hopefully. Anybody who wants to can take part in the King of the Hill topic, but nobody HAS to. I'll see what I can do about the vira, but I don't think I can remove the post count. Everybody is just as important as the next here... so long as they put in their two cents and don't cause trouble. You've been great so far, and I value your opinion, so keep up the good work.

You can set how much Vira a person would get for doing various things like posting and creating a new topic or thanking someone or giving them rep and such. I don't know why the forum software has a monetary system if they don't have anything to do with it. And Stoneskin, generally a monetary system on a forum is used to sell services like sig making or some account or other forums that you sell your possessions or trade things have it so you don't ust sign up and scam people, you would need a certain amount of the currency to make a trade and such. I suppose here it is fairly useless for the reason that we have none of these services and there really is no way to use it.
