Any Skaikan here, respond to this. (That means people who are part of the clan...)

I figure we need to do something. I haven't created this clan, and gotten you guys to join for nothing. Anybody have any ideas right off the top of their head? I might have a few, but I'm not sure yet, I wanna hear from 'yall. (lol, yeah right... 'yall... I'm not american.)

Yeah I know, I'm really just making sure people are alive. I haven't been the most active recently either.

I am alive. But what's the use of it? Neutral
Just kidding. Laughing Two days without a single turn, what's going on bounce My days off won't last forever!
I duuno. Froster is on vacation, I think. Three of us can call some 1v1v1 small or medium map with diplomacy disabled. Or 3 x 1v1 small maps like Mountain Clash such way that everybody plays w. everybody and each one plays two games simultaneously, one as Goblins and one as Halflings.

Sure. I downloaded three of them, will look into later.

What do you think about playing Ocean FFA all Blood Isles FFA? We may set the 4th player for AI if Froster is not around.
Or BlackFire Pass three 1v1 games "ring".

I'd prefer to test NSTO in a real multiplayer game. Games against myself don't really count as a "real" playtest. It's short and straightfoward, but does have little action. It's a big chess game. It'd be nice to see how we fare on that map.

Otherwise, I love Blood Isles. The mod I made really transforms it from single player to multiplayer.

RFtD would be a good choice to practice our coordination skills. Since it's a coop map, it would make us learn how the others play. Good for a clan activity.

So, what map ?

I'm not sure what NSTO or RFtD are... but I like the sound of RFtD, 'cause of the coordination idea.

Dark Elves - The First Day

Indeed, what lurks under the ground...?

We who have forsaken the light, in favor of a better path lurk in the dark places of the world. Along with our allies, the Dark Elves will obliterate the forces of light. We have already gained the allegiance of a nearby Goblin town, Dublan.

Joldran, day 2

Recruited a 1hex undead city;
Found Dwarven forces;
Found 50 gold;
Produced merchandise everywhere;
Cast Stoneskin on my hero;
Gold Rush in 5 turns (forgot I actually had to cast it :p).

Gold = 55+45

Master, maybe you should've took the undead 2hex. It's not that important though. There are plenty of cities in the caverns. And you can always go for wraiths instead, Froster :p.

Orcs, day 1-2
We see that our allies have already found the enemy!!! We can't wait to taste their blood!
ts

Now I feel like a pig. There is another 2hex that I was going to buy on the next turn. Froster, come and get it. Too bad I saved the money and produced nothing on this turn.
I research fire halo, BTW, will be ready to cas tomorrow. I think we will need mutual casting on our heroes...

Dark Elves - The Second Day

~ Phelos of the Dark Elves.

Scouts push further into the upper caverns of the underground and capture a magic node. As I travel with Monwe and his pet spider queen, Monwe seems to do nothing other than go over his plans. He tells me his plan must be flawless, though I am not so sure his obsession is based so much on a plan as it is based on his lust for power.

* * * * * * * * * *

Sorry Froster, I prefer Goblins rather than Undead, but I didn't have a choice. Whether I took the Goblin town or not, somebody would have had to travel across the map to overthrow the Dark Elven town. Oleg had already took the Undead town by the time my turn came around.

---------------------------------------------
Seriously, Master, you are making the same mistakes again. Still you camp you cities and still you build walls when you don't need them. You should spend your resources elsewhere and send your troops to the caverns. This is a semi-feodal game. Territory is the resource we are all fighting for. The more you have, the more powerful you are. You know there is only one way in and out of the depths: the caves. You should send your troops to the caverns and scout around the caves. Retreat to the lower level if you must. Only one stack may attack from a level or another, and at least two stacks can defend. Hence, walls are pretty useless in your current situation.

A defensive game is usually already a defeat. Your only resource is heroes in this kind of strategy. They are the only thing between defeat and survival, since their power increases with levels. But, ultimately, they cost much, and you must find some kind of income. Though a war of attrition almost always favors the one in the best geostrategic position, randomness is a major factor that can destroy you and you can ALWAYS be overrun if enough manpower is sent.

You are not even playing "safe". You shouldn't expect very early major attacks. There is even information confirming that there will be no major threats: the enemy comes from the surface and you are located in the depths. It takes time to travel troops, and you can spend this time increasing your defenses. Heroes and leaders are powerful enough to defend vital resources (core cities and bottlenecks), and you always send your reserve troops to back them up (newly produced troops). Hence, always send warbands and scouts ahead to capture resources while having minimal troops behind. Hey, you don't want to defend against a possible incoming enemy, right ? Do to him the very thing you fear and fight him in is own territory on your conditions. If you are fighting him far from your cities, his troops are thus NOT at your doorstep.

Finally, whatever you may think, it is impossible to make real long term plans in a defensive play. You are always preparing for the next attack, which may be next turn. So, only short term production counts (one turn). Medium term planning (2-4 turns) is suitable when you have enough visual information to know what lurks in front. That is only possible with enough scouts ahead and warbands to intercept incoming enemy troops (their own scouts and warbands). Long term planning (5+ turns) occurs when you are confident enough that your investments will pay, since these projects take time to complete and can leave you in precarious positions. So, this kind of planning is only possible in cities far from the front line or in heavily defended positions. If you didn't make it out yet, achieving any one of the conditions of long term planning is only possible on one condition: having a strong army.

Plans thrive or fall because of information. It is a resource as vital as territory and troops. You have to do all you can to get it. In the end, all falls back on manpower. You get more territory with troops. This will reward you with more troops. The by product of travelling troops is information, the thing you need to actually make better plans.

So, get out there and control strategic positions, get resources, and battle your way to peace/power.
