PostSubject: Pirate Kings Playtest   Fri Dec 18, 2009 3:52 am

First topic message reminder :

I finished a new map, and it's ready for beta playtesting. I will wait a few days before I start the game, so whoever is interested in testing the map is welcome to join me.

Objective: accumulate 5000 gold
Features: most of the map is covered by sea, but a significant portion is continual landmass; all custom heroes and items

Dark Elves: Travis II
Humans: Stoneskin
Orcs: Oleg123
Undead: Lord AI
Note: except for Undead, race has little impact on strategy until the late game

Captured a node and a mine. Then explored some lair. Instead of monsters, there was a crazy electric old lady. She attacked us on sight and killed my second Swordsman. I dealt her the final blow. It feels like an instant level up! Between the hag's trinkets were some quite valuable. I wonder if the rest may be cursed and maybe I should throw them away.

What do you think of the Storm Queen ? Was she scary ? Should I make her stronger ? I didn't want her to die so early. Did you win out of a close margin ? What do you think of the items ? Please give me some details Smile !

It smells like another level up, or even two. However, there is not much left of my army.
ts

Stoneskin, it was not nice to migrate that town to Humans and to strenghen it's defences Wink At least the nearby node was easier to grab

@Storm Queen was OK. It would be easier if I had one archer more. Part of killing me a swordsman, she was close to kill my hero, wounded my leader and one of archers, too. I dunno if you have to make her a bigger challenge, failing it at a PBEM game would really suck. Items are nice. If you want my 2c, Liqui-something name sounds more like giving Liquid Form, which contains Swimming, too. As for items ideas, see mail Smile

I've put a non random guard to the air nodes, a great eagle, when I noticed that air elementals would appear as guards once in a while at lower defender values.

What's the problem with changing the cities to humans ? And they still have less defenses than on the mainland. You don't want to migrate them to lizards ? Well, that's exactly what I want. I want to make this scenario objective oriented, and this is one of the tools to achieve this. These cities will give you gold, and not much more of anything else. You want a naval army ? Conquer lizard locations. =)

You shouldn't fail in exploration sites. There are many tactics to win these locations without a sweat. The easiest one in tactical combat is to scout a few hexes with a scout, then fall back at least as many hexes that you advanced. The defending creatures will move towards you when they first notice you, so you can know what you will fight without coming to blows first. In fast combat, sending a ram that will automatically flee will you show you the sprites of the defenders. In your case, with Tioren, seeing the Storm Queen before she gets you is a joke.

I didn't want to include swimming in the Liquifying Ring's powers. That would REALLY overpower it. Furthermore, I already included a ring in the library that gives swimming.

As for curses or special events, that's impossible in AoW1. The "Storm Queen's revenge" is only a joke, as of now :p. Believe me, she'll get her revenge eventually !

I kinda screwed up last turn when I got my starting men killed (excluding hero/leader). It's all good though.

I also got a restart from trying to push my leader too far and he died! Razz

Ship battles are so random... Oleg and me don't have galleys anymore. But I got to complete one of my objectives: Foltz and Tioren are stuck on an island for a while.
